MasterKey WEEK 17HJ: Mini HJs

This week we started talking and thinking about the Hero’s Journey. I really enjoyed adding the aspect to what we have already learned. The Joseph Campbell interview on Youtube is instructive and when I hear Bill Moyer and George Lucas discuss the Hero’s Journey as it appears in Star Wars, I could not only see the model illustrated, but also see examples of what the struggle looks and sounds like.

The Hero’s Journey provides a wonderful model for understanding:

how we move from the known through the unknown,

let the excuses we have been comfortable with previously die, and

become heroically changed by the process of rising to the occasion, returning to our expanded known or familiar life better equipped to serve and inspire our tribe.

This week, I observed in myself the “mini HJ”.

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledThe mini HJ can take place in a very short time period… maybe seconds, minutes or hours.  This doesn’t have to be some huge epiphany shift in life values. It can be a victory of overcoming procrastination. In fact, I think there are dozens of mini HJs everyday as we move towards the larger, more significant changes we would recognize as growth. The mini HJs are the cause of the effects that we desire. We do the exercises (each exercise is a herald’s call) to make these mini HJ victories accumulate into HABITS.

A mini HJ can be as simple  as when we stop pretending that we don’t know something we have used as an excuse for not moving forward. UntitledWe get the herald’s call to action, to get off our butts and move on purpose, let our old blueprint die in that thing, and act with new purpose, confidence and knowledge. The next time the Herald’s Call comes, we are equipped with knowledge and experience to be applied to either banishing the excuses or accepting the call to greater adventure.

I am nature’s greatest miracle because I can do this on purpose.

Do it now!

Accept the Call to Greatness.

Be Heroic!

Master Key: WEEK 17 Lord, Give me patience, RIGHT NOW!

Lord give me patience, RIGHT NOW!

Some have titled that “The Woman’s Prayer”. I’m not convinced it is gender specific.

This has been a chaotic week of stark contrasts. Sometimes, stuff just happens… When it happened this week, I reacted badly.             “Ol’ Blue ” raised his stubborn head and I felt fully justified to be angry/frustrated for about 3 emotional seconds before I realized what was happening. I didn’t want to feel ‘hurt’ or afraid or  like I needed to  ‘blame ‘somebody.  My anger didn’t help to change the events. There was no love, or joy or peace or harmony or kindness. I had to quickly turn on the back-up peptide generator to reconnect to the source of all those things I want to occupy my life. I can choose my reaction. I went within…

When things around me started to unravel, thanks to MKMMA study and practice, I was able to quickly step outside of the experience and be the impartial observer. I remembered  our studies and practice and did my best to apply the law of dual thought (choose the feeling I attach to the thought) and the law of substitution ( exchange or substitute one thought with another)…  I chose my reaction. That was very Cool!

SYMBOLS: Reminders or Counterfeits

The other thing I have been pondering this week is what role symbols play in my life. It’s interesting how symbols are often a representation of  desirable things. In our immature state, we want to show others that we have attained wealth or power or position by being in possession of the symbols of those things… Money, fancy clothes, bigger house, newer car…

Haanel describes the tendency of many who want to HAVE rather than to BE.

There have certainly been times when I thought I could take a shortcut by buying a lottery ticket when I wanted money, RIGHT NOW… Somebody’s gonna win it! Might as well be me, I would “rational-lies”. GIMME,GIMME, GIMME…without doing the internal personal development needed to become a person of wealth or abundance…Wealth and abundance are principles, not objects. I just wanted the symbol of wealth and abundance.

In paragraph 28 Haanel teaches. “You may be pursuing the symbols of power, instead of power itself… You may be pursuing fame instead of honor, riches instead of wealth, position instead of servitude; in either event you will find they will turn to ashes just as you overtake them.” Maybe that’s part of the reason why so many lottery winners are broke in such a short time after their big wins. or why we often ask, ‘Is that all there is” when we acquire the symbol only without the change within.

There are symbols, of course, that remind us of the principles we are adopting internally.

While wearing a cross doesn’t make you a Christian, it may help to remind you of the principles Christ taught. Aspiring to  internalize those teachings, helps us become disciples of Christ in attitude and deed.

While wearing a compass doesn’t make you a navigator of life, it may remind you of  your DMP,  your higher-self,  of living a principled life  and following your internal compass vs the clock.

There’s no place like ROME…

Many years ago now I lived in Rome for four months. I learned a lot there and developed an deeper appreciation for the Latin roots of our language. I was told this simple story:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In the Trajan Markets of ancient Rome, vendors of pottery would be heard to claim that their goods were “SIN –  CERA”. That literally meant that their pottery was… “sin” meaning  without… “cera”  meaning wax.  Since it was a common occurrence that chips or cracks  in the vessel’s finish  would be repaired using wax so they weren’t visible to the buyer. The claim then was that their goods were “without wax” or “free from flaw”… In English,  the  modern word is SINCERE.

MKMMA has helped rekindle a desire to be ‘sin cera’, …building the characteristics within, spiritually created, anchored in truth… and not live my life as a mere counterfeit. MKMMA has given me a new set of tools to understand and interpret what really matters most. For that I am deeply, sincerely grateful.

MasterKey WEEK16: F Q V

Part 16…paragraph 17 of Haanel: “… to control thought is to control circumstances, conditions, environment and destiny.”

This is worth some extra study and thinking because if I can learn to control thought…my thoughtI can control ” …circumstances, conditions, environment and destiny.”

Haanel lays out the process for control of my thought in 18…it will depend upon:

Form is the CHARACTERISTICS of Mental Images. Your mental images …depend on the depth of the impression (ENTHUUUUUSIASM),…predominance of the idea (FOCUS), …clarity of vision (DETAILS, like 5 senses) and…the boldness of the image.(INTENSITY of BELIEF)

Quality is seen in the SUBSTANCE of which the thought is woven such as vigor, strength, courage, determination…I bring that substance to the process.

Vitality  depends on the FEELINGS we attach to the thought (Law of DUAL THOUGHT). I get to give LIFE to the thought. If thought is CONSTRUCTIVE, it will grow, develop, expand, create and attract to itself everything necessary for its complete development.                      A DESTRUCTIVE  thought brings every form of discord, dissolution and dis-ease.

These concepts link to every exercise we do…every habit we form that supersedes “Ol’ BLUE”. I really can be what I will to be… and now I know how to do it…

But Knowledge does not apply itself! DO it Now! DO it Now! DO it NOW!

I am enough because I am nature’s greatest miracle…and I,  like you, I was created for no other reason than to succeed in the same relaxed way nature always succeeds.

Master Key WEEK 15: Making the links & An Open Hand

I have been focusing on the thought of gaining Insight.

Let’s see… a compass to follow and a magnifying glass for clarity and focus

What prevents me from acquiring Insight that will show the way to  actions that push past…”custom, precedent and habit”… 15-35 reads: “Insight is a product of the world within and is developed in silence, by concentration.”

Ah yes, The SIT. I continue to hone the skills of silence, quieting the mind and listening to the thoughts that come, allowing distractive thoughts to roll off with an exhale and sifting through to deeper impressions.

I have also been aware of being the observer of my habitual self talk and especially noting examples in myself and others of SELF CONTROL… pretty amazing  exercise… lots to occupy my thoughts while walking the dog in the morning, listening to recordings and observing the beauty of winter.

I have noticed that I have begun to see improvement in reducing the time between the thought to act and when I actually do it. And frankly so has my sweet wife. I am getting more random hugs and smooches because my better habit of ‘do it now,’ gets things done without having to be reminded or feeling bad or making excuses. That places less stress between us and I feel less reluctant about giving more of me to her.  And, what you send out, comes back… Thanks MKMMA!

I have been blessed not to be an emotional hoarder of hurt feelings and garbage. But despite that self description, I actually made a list and released my feelings about certain individuals. The Law of Forgiveness said that we need to clear the channel to the Universal through forgiveness. I highly recommend it.

I still wrestle with some of the concepts that I have been thinking more deeply about over these past few months.

Haanel 15-3 says, “Difficulties, inharmonies, and obstacles, indicate that we are either refusing to give out what we no longer need, or refusing to accept what we require.”

Hmmmm… so, by clinging tightly to the past, or refusing to be open to the abundance we are creating, we are denying or delaying the gifts of the present. The channel is still clogged by what we refuse to relinquish… ‘Give more’, clears space to receive abundance.

Closed Open HandThe closed hand, that will not give ( or serve ), cannot receive.

How often do you refuse to accept a delivery from the UNIVERSE because you are not expecting it… so it couldn’t be for you.

And so we repeat the words each day that encourage the habit described by the words… I give something to everyone I encounter…I promise to be a grateful receiver of gifts…I promise to give hope…I promise to give without the expectation of reciprocity.

I had to update my last blog “Harmony”. I had to learn some technical skills to be able to add the song  that exemplifies Harmony to me. Click on the link to check it out

Master Key WEEK 14: Harmony

My first thought when I hear the word

is a musical connotation.

music-notes-Some of my earliest, happiest childhood experiences centered around music… My mother had a pleasant voice and loved to sing.  She taught me basic truths and behaviors through songs. Do you remember these words?… same notes… different songs…

A      B     C     D     E      F     G…

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Bah, Bah Black Sheep, have you any wool?

What I heard had meaning to me… The sounds attached to music  ‘pitch, rhythm, meter, dynamics, intervals, chords and harmony’…  could make me happy… sad… were funny…  or comforting… made me laugh and dance or think and ask questions… a wondrous cacophony of emotion and significance that has definitely shaped me over the years.

I also learned, as I grew  and studied, that music had rules. The more I knew about the rules, the easier it was to communicate with others about the process and the product of making music with others. Knowing the rules didn’t make the music. You had to learn the rule, practice the skill, repeat it over and over so that it was second nature (subconscious) to you. That’s when you can count on connecting to the creative forces of UNIVERSAL mind.

Tune in a bucket

Dad could barely carry a tune in a bucket!

I come from a family with six kids. We are all ‘mature’ now…maybe I should stick with ‘ much older ‘…  Mom sang to all of us as kids. Good thing, because Dad could barely carry a tune in a bucket!  We all liked to sing. We could all hear harmony… notes that were pleasing together.  A few years ago, for my Mom’s 95th birthday, we got all six of us together in one spot and at the same time for the first time in 22 years,  and we started to sing some of the old songs we used to perform together. About half way through the first verse we realized  something was wrong. We had beautiful three part harmony… with no melody line.  We all loved singing harmony. We fixed the problem, applied the rule of having a root note in the chord so that the harmony made sense. We laughed about how that could happen so easily and were pleasantly surprised that we ‘still had it’…

One of the rules I learned as I sang in various choirs and groups was to sing out, with enthuuuuusiasm. That way, when you made a mistake, you heard it right away,(frankly so did everyone else) could correct it quickly… and when you were in harmony the sound was beautiful. Harmony actually has a feeling to it. Harmony of live voices is a spiritual experience for me.  Listen to the great choirs of the world or the amazing A Capella groups that are everywhere today…Love it.

About a year ago, my brother Les, his son Chris and I recorded a song,Prayer of the Children,  originally written about the children of Kosovo by Kurt Bestor. Our version was actually recorded in a bedroom and mixed by my mastermind partner and writing partner, Larry Thompson. The song makes me think too of the countless innocents who are displaced by the Syrian conflict. Thought I would share some ‘harmony’ with you here.

Prayer of the Children

I have experienced time stand still while working in the recording studio. Time-stopping,  creative experiences are deeply anchored in the flow from UNIVERSAL Mind through the subconscious to the conscious. Those are moments of profound harmony.

When Truth meets Truth,

there you will find HARMONY

I have spent large portions of my life seeking, creating and  enjoying harmony. I have also spent portions of my life in disharmony… feeling bad…not playing well with others…I sometimes learned the hard way that Truth doesn’t conform to your way of thinking. You must come into harmony with the truth you know. Haanel teaches  in 12:9: ‘You cannot change the Infinite, but you can come into  an understanding of natural laws… a conscious realization of your ability to adjust your thought faculties with the Universal Thought…’

Someone once said, “You don’t break the Ten Commandments, you break yourself against them.”

When two truths meet they form Harmony. They resonate and strengthen each other. Our opportunity is to come into harmony with the truth.  Integrity is largely internal unity between what you know and what you do. Sounds like HARMONY to me…

May our service to others lead us to greater Harmony in 2016 and well beyond.

Live well while doing good.
